Biography of David Waid

Shortly after starting his post-doctoral studies, David was floored with a divorce that left him depressed and unable to tackle the challenges of building a career as a research scientist. He left science doing mundane work until his mind started to repair itself and he found his happiness again in the pursuit of art.
Artist’s Statement
My art is an expression of my drive to create a synthesis of the images rattling around in my brain.
The images that stick in my mind are shapes and curves created by all that I see.
These come from the simple things like the spaces between branches of a tree, the choppy foam peaks
of a turbulent ocean, the sensual curve of a woman’s neckline, or the silky flow of the fur on a dog’s back.
I simplify these images into curves and lines in my drawings. Then I build these simple drawings back up into a long lasting 3 dimensional object made of metal and stone. I love creating a sensual flow to my art’s design. After the piece of art takes on the look I was trying to capture, I continue working the piece until holding it in my hand feels as good as it looks to me. The process continues like an intimate dance with a skilled partner bringing delight to every aspect of the creation. And I desire to share that joy with others.
That is why I’ve chosen to create wearable art forms, so that others can enjoy this delight and share it with everyone around them.
